Carrie left a career in corporate America nearly two decades ago and has since been honing her silk painting skills working out of her 100-square-foot home studio in downtown Muncie. She is constantly exploring new ways of expressing ideas through art and feels absolute freedom to combine ancient and completely innovative silk painting techniques.
Born and raised surrounded by the beauty of the flat Indiana landscape of Northern Delaware County, Carrie says, “I’m always thinking about light, how we experience light as color, and how different patterns of color evoke different emotional responses in all of us. Because silk reflects far more light than it absorbs, I find it to be the perfect media for using color and pattern to communicate my thoughts and emotions.”
Carrie launched her e-commerce business Carrie Wright Silk in 2018 and earned the Indiana Artisan designation later that year. Carrie’s art has won awards at the Hoosier Salon Gallery, the Indiana State Fair, and she has enjoyed the honor of having her hand-painted scarves given as gifts of state by the Indiana Governor.
